One year older : still no wiser
One year ago today I started this blog, while recovering from an injury. I guess I figured if I wasn’t running I could at least write about running.
To be honest, at the time I didn’t really know how the running was going to pan out, and I had absolutely no idea about how the blogging would go. I’m glad to say that one year on I’ve completed two marathons and managed some 158 posts with over 16,000 views of my blog along the way.
Interestingly, it’s not the marathons that I’m happiest about. It’s the blogging. I had no idea what might happen but to say that the blogging community exceeded my expectations would be an understatement. I am humbled by the interest and interaction with my writing, and would like to thank everyone who has liked or commented on my blog and my Facebook page.
Funnily enough, as if in some form of karmic synergy, as I write this ‘blogoversary’ post I’m injured again. This time though it’s nothing to do with running. It’s Aussie rules football (again). Nothing major, just a minor inversion sprain of my ankle which I’ve treated with R.I.C.E and, now that the swelling has gone down, some mobility exercises. Hopefully I’ll be back playing next week but for now there’s no running going on. We’ll see what Thursday brings. I plan to do a bit of a fitness test – calf raises, stability board, one-legged squats and other exercises to see how the ankle is moving and reacting under load. Either way it’s looking like solid ankle strapping for the rest of the season to protect the ankle from further injury…
In other news, I started a new job today! Crucially, it’s only about 8.5km/6m from home, so running to or from work is on the cards. A simpler way to increase my mileage over the summer and to combine transport with training!
In the meantime, thanks for reading and happy running everyone!
Get Going, Get Running!
